Day Eleven: My SEO Career Is Just Around The Corner

Happy Thursday, everyone,

I wish I could only blog/brainstorm as fantastically as Seth Godin does. This post of his from this Tuesday captured my experience with SEO these past four months and certainly the past eleven days of blogging about it.

I’m the type of person whose posture borders between mega-inquisitive and stalking when it comes to subjects I love. Now I’ve found a subject/hobby I can turn into a career and it is glorious.

Five months ago I only knew what SEO was from Wikipedia.
Four months ago I began to gain a better understanding of SEO.
Three months ago I began gleaning any and all info I search for involving SEO.
Two weeks ago I decided to start up this blog chronicling my salad days of SEO.
Last week two businesses gave me the opportunity and their trust to let me SEO their Web sites.

I’m leaning in the door of the house of SEO and if I follow the great instruction I’ve gained these four months in the upcoming months, SEO will let me in.

Thanks for reading,
John

PS I’ll won’t post days 12-14 because I’ll be in Dallas for a friend’s wedding but will definitely return on day 15. See you all Monday.

Day Ten: My First Two SEO Clients

Behold the power of the Internet, friends.

My SEO future has a great start. I earned my first two clients in three days last week – one through Facebook, one through a conversation in a Wal-Mart employee break room. I’m pleased to announce I’ll be optimizing:

  1. Amanda Nichole Photography
  2. Ladder Flauge

I’m super-excited to get my SEO gears running with more sites than just this one. My plan was to finish my 30-Day Challenge, then look for clients but I feel confident already to optimize their Web sites right now.

Boom goes the SEO dynamite,
John

Day Nine: The Connection Between SEO & Bon Iver

Bon Iver – Skinny Love

You’re probably wondering where the connection between SEO and Bon Iver is. I will tell you. Bon Iver – Justin Vernon – created his first album by himself in a Wisconsin cabin in 2006 – 2007 with no one really knowing who he was. Between then and 2011 the big guns such as Kanye West and Peter Gabriel are sampling and covering his music. His exposure grew but his tenacity stayed the same, which shares the path of SEO.

Desire, elbow grease and talent compose search engine optimization, leading to success for the businesses implementing it. Every story I’ve heard about a business or blog, regardless of size, putting SEO into practice has always ended with improvement and an increase in value. I hope this blog will join that category with my desire, talent and elbow grease.

Thanks for reading,
John

Day Eight: My First Week In SEO

Happy Monday, everyone,

This is a late post so I’ll keep it short. My first week of my own SEO was great…along with hard and deprived of sleep. This past week I set up this blog with Google Webmaster Tools and Google Analytics and totally learned so much (hint – a lot) about solid SEO. The three are becoming good friends, which is awesome so I can now work on the nitty-gritties of on-page SEO and watch my baby of a blog blossom into bloghood.

Sleep tight,
John

Day Five: SEO Help for Beginners Starting SEO

Hi readers,

I want to recommend all SEOs, or even people just starting a Web site, should sign up for Webmaster Tools of Bing and Google as soon as they begin. These search engines pretty much give you all the advice and guidance ever needed to set up your site on solid Internet ground.

I didn’t realize Google had a “Checklist” to help out with SEO until day five of my 30-day challenge to begin SEO. Cool. Right now I’ve finished five of the 11 steps; they’re going through swimmingly but I’m pooped from my day job and will finish them tomorrow. I’ll be really happy to finish them soon so I can really lay the SEO hammer down 😉

See you Monday,
John
